PSYCHIATRY
Dr. Dilani Wijeratne (MBBS,MD, FRANZCP) is a consultant psychiatrist at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne. Dr. Wijeratne graduated from Flinders University South Australia. She then completed her internship at Flinders Medical Centre. She became interested in Psychiatry since she was an intern. She underwent advanced training in adult Psychiatry in several state of the art centres in Psychiatry ( Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand, Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia, North Western Mental Health Services, Victoria to name a few). She became a Fellow, Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist and took up a consultant Psychiatrist position at Austin hospital since 2007. She is a Fellow, American Psychiatry Association. She was invited to be an international advisor , Sri Lanka Association for Study of Pain in 2008.She works in adult psychiatry with a special interest in psychosis, mood , anxiety disorders and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy.
NEUROLOGY
Professor Tissa Wijeratne (MBBS, FRACP,FAAN (USA),FRSM (UK), FAHA (USA), FRCP (Edin),FRCP (London) is a highly qualified Neurologist and the Director of the stroke Unit, Neuroscience Research Unit, Movement disorders program at Western Hospital, Melbourne. Tissa is a clinical Associate Professor in Medicine, Western Health Clinical School, University of Melbourne, Australia. He is visiting Professor of Neurology to two leading Universities in Sri Lanka since 2013.He leads a successful stroke care program at Western Health where the team manages a large volume of stroke and TIA patients in western metropolitan Melbourne. He has supervised advanced training of twenty one neurologists since 2007. This included supervision of the training of ten overseas neurologists at the premises of Western Health. In 2010, Tissa joined the Education Committee, World Federation of Neurology to continue his work in the field of neurology education with his international colleagues from the rest of the world. He sits in the national advocacy and policy committee, RACP, education and learning committee. He is also an examiner for the Physician’s exam, RACP. He was also invited sit in the public awareness and advocacy committee, world federation of Neurology earlier this year. He is a principal investigator for many international multi centre randomised clinical trials in Stroke and other neurological disorders at Western Health. Tissa was the membership officer, the public officer (Director), Stroke Society of Australasia from 2011-2013. His current research involved vision based predictive biomarkers in stroke and neurology, models of stroke thrombolysis, models of TIA management, seizures in the elderly, neurocysticercosis, quality of life in multiple sclerosis, neurophysiology of central and peripheral pain and young stroke. Tissa was one of the four Australian neurologists selected for the Master of headache program, Asia Pacific Headache Master School, Tokyo, Japan 2013 which was organized by the International Headache Society. Tissa is the only Australian neurologist to be awarded prestigious Donald M Palatucci advocate, advisor, and faculty status, American Academy of Neurology in 2008, 2010 and 2011. He is the first neurologist in the world to be awarded the prestigious Ted Munsatt award in recognition of his giant efforts in global education activities in neurology, World Federation of Neurology in 2017.
Dr. Simon Sung (MBBS,FRACP)is a highly qualified neurologist , movement disorders neurologist with a special interest in general neurological disorders. Dr. Sung graduated from University of Melbourne and completed his basic physician training and advanced training in clinical neurology, neurophysiology through Western General Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. He is the current Movement Disorders Fellow at Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is also a visiting neurologist for the movement disorders program at Western General Hospital.He is an active member of Australia and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, Movement Disorders Society, Movement Disorders Society Australasia. Dr. Sung has a special interest and skills in management of Parkinson’s disease and associated conditions, dystonia, deep brain stimulation in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, botulinum toxin therapy in movement disorders and chronic migraine, management of TIA and stroke.He offers general neurology consultations, consults in movement disorders, botulinum toxin treatment for movement disorders and chronic migraine at the North West Melbourne Medical Specialists. Dr. Geraldine Ng MBBS, FRACP is a highly qualified neurologist with excellent skills in general neurology and stroke medicine. She has a special interest in general neurology, headache medicine, stroke and TIA, Parkinson’s disease to name a few. She mastered her skills in rare and complex neurological disorders with her prestigious ANZAN fellowship at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford,UK in 2016. She continued her interest in neuroimmunology with a keen interest in multiple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis, neurosarcoidosis, NMO spectrum disorders throughout her training at Western Health, Austin Health and UK. Professor Tissa Wijeratne
Tissa has strong links and collaboration with his colleagues in Asia Pacific region. He is a founder member of the Asia Pacific Stroke Advocacy Group. He is a delegate representing the international working group for young neurologists and trainees for the world federation of neurology. He became the founder president for Asia Pacific Association for Young Neurologists and Trainees. Tissa is a Fellow, Royal Society of Medicine, UK and an International Fellow, American Stroke Association. He was elected be a Fellow, American Academy of Neurology ,2014. He is also the membership officer for Stroke Society Australasia for 2010-2011 year. He was appointed as an International advisor to the Indian Stroke Association in 2013. In the same year, Tissa was also conferred with the honorary life membership of Indian Stroke Association . Tissa was the course director and convener for the inaugural Geoff Donnan-Stephen Davis Stroke Advocacy Leadership Forum, Stroke Society of Australasia 2011 which trained the first 14 stroke advocates in 2011. He is a graduate, advisor, faculty member of the award winning Donald M Palatucci Advocacy Leadership program, American Academy of Neurology. He has been an invited faculty member for many advocacy workshops in neurology and stroke around the world. He has delivered just over two hundred invited international lectures in stroke care, migraine, Parkinson’s disease neurology education, and advocacy around the world. Associate Professor Tissa Wijeratne has published his work in prestigious medical journals including New England Medical Journal, Medical Journal of Australia, World Neurology, International Stroke Journal and Asia Neurology. He is an active member, Asia Initiative, World Federation of Neurology and committed to improve state of the art neurology across the globe, particularly in Australia (not only in metropolitan cities but country Australia also) and Asia Oceania region.
